Project 52

The first FCB Concert of the band's 54th Season was supposed to take place on Sunday. Because of it, we could only make a day trip to see my mom over the weekend. Although our time with my mom amounted to less than a day, we had a nice time. We had lunch at El Mariachi Mexican Grill which is one of my favorite places to eat when visiting Ionia, then returned to the house to watch my DVD copy of The Big Sleep. I still don't understand who killed who or why (and this was probably the fifth time I've seen the movie) but I enjoy the heck out of all the clothing, furnishings, and language used in the movie. Mom seems to share my opinion.

As for mom herself, she was doing great when we saw her and it wasn't until we recounted our weekend at lunch on Monday that I realized she wasn't struggling for words at all while we were together. She just seemed normal in a good way. I do wonder if she struggles more when she's tired or it is later in the day. We had to leave for home no later than 7 pm so that we'd be home at a semi-reasonable hour and [personal profile] jebra could rest up for Sunday's concert. Not to mention we had to stop in at the office to pick up one of the instruments he'd need.

The concert was rained out, so [personal profile] jebra and I drove to Dearborn and walked around The Henry Ford. It was filled with ghosts (unclaimed Ingess portals) when we arrived but after a half hour or so someone (or someones) arrived to foil our plan to make lots of fields. We still racked up a lot of points while we were there. When we left the museum I had a little under half a million points to go before reaching player Level 16 (the highest level). That last half million is going to be difficult as Niantic has stopped supporting the Redacted version of the program is requiring what they call Ingress Prime. Which sucks. It keeps locking up my device to the point I have no option but to reboot. Not to mention it still can't sort Portal Keys alphabetically. (That's an available option, is just doesn't work.) There are other problems too, but you get my point.

Speaking of devices, I have a new cellphone. [personal profile] jebra's old phone was starting to have problems turning on and I was tired of hearing complaints that my phone and his phone work differently. So this time when we saw the phones were on sale, I bought two. The new one is slightly larger than my old one, considerably faster, and quite a bit heavier. So far, that's all I have to say about it.

Oh, before I forget, the photo from The Henry Ford? If you have trouble making it out, it's of a room filled with monkeys doing human things: gambling, playing and listening to music, feasting, etc. It was carved a prisoner out of peach pits and sent to Henry Ford as a gift. Henry Ford was impressed enough to recommend the guy for a job when he was released from prison, but that's all I know about it. I was entranced the diorama when we were at the museum and spent quite a few minutes examining it. The only other thing that really caught my fancy this trip was the Mathematica Exhibit which was entirely new to me. [personal profile] jebra said he'd seen either it or something similar before. I found it quite interesting and enjoyed looking at everything and spending time understanding what they showed or how they worked. See the Henry Food's page on Mathematica Exhibit if you are curious.

Stagecrafters' presentation of Ragtime was excellent. And the performance was either completely sold out or very close to it. That made me happy as Thursday performances are often under-attended and cast did a first rate job.
