This has been one of the most productive weekends I've had in a long time. My goals for the weekend were make a post to freecycle, to fill our bird feeders, and to watch the Unsub DVDs I found on eBay. Unsub was one of the first forensic cop shows on tv, dating back to 1989. It lasted only eight episodes, and starred two of my adolescent favorites (David Soul and Kent McCord), so I was sure I'd be able to get through the disks without any trouble. Well, here it is, nearly 1:00 in the morning and I'm still watching. But on the other hand, I'm not done with the laundry yet, and I expect both will wrap up about the same time.

I'd have finished watching sooner, if it weren't for frequent breaks to check on the washer and dryer, or to help jebra in the kitchen. He spent much of the weekend cooking chili and sloppy joes to restock our chest freezer, since we also defrosted and cleaned it this weekend.

The other major accomplishment this weekend was to try my hand at photography using a light box. I followed the instructions I'd found on Make:, and took a test shot.

The background color could be better, but considering I was unable to find full spectrum light bulbs, and this was the first time I've ever tried adjusting the white balance, I think I'm off to a pretty good start.

That sounds like a nice, comfortable productive weekend, Mrs Sweetpeach. The photograph is really good. I had a nice weekend too - a group of local fans came to my house for Sunday lunch. I have to ask again (because I think I had this explained to me before :)what exactly is a sloppy joe?

A sloppy joe is a sandwich filling consisting of ground beef cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. I can give you the recipe if you like.

It had posted!!! I need to put my glasses on :) Yes that's what it is, I remember now. So do you make the sandwich and freeze it? Is it a kind of comfort food?

I'm trying to decide if sloppy joes are one of my comfort foods. For certain it's something I've been eating since I was kid, and I sure do like them. But I think the reason we (well, the spouse) makes the filling in large batches is because not only does it freeze well, it's also something we'll both eat. He tries to limit his consumption of carbohydrates, which means we eat different things for dinner most nights.

I loved UNSUB. I still have all of the episodes on tape. The one with a then unknown Kevin Spacey as a bomber always fascinated me.

It was interesting watching the episodes. Some of their methods were in line with what we see today on Forensic Files, whereas others just made me smile. Like some computer search that was going to tie up the department's computer while it was being run. The politics behind the department was also interesting, Westie continually having to justify the expense.

I'm sort of surprised to see you're familiar with the show. I'd never heard of it when it came up as an aside in a conversation about David Soul, and when I went on line to look for it, I found only the most basic information. I'm still in shock that neither epguides nor tv.com have episode descriptions. Jump the Shark was also a surprise when I went there last night. I think only five or six people commented about the show, leading me to think that the reason it was canceled was a lack of viewers.

Name some really obscure TV show, I've probably watched it. I might even have it on tape. I remember watching UNSUB when CBS first aired it. Then a little later on, CBS ran it in repeats very late at night, at around 12 or 1 in the morning, and I taped it.

I've been thinking this over since you posted. My first thought was to ask what your favorite obscure television show was, but then I haven't been able to pick my own. I used to love The Name of the Game, The Champions, and The Rogues, and some weird SF thing I can barely recall that used to come on around 2:00 in the morning on Saturdays (well, technically, Sunday morning). Weird-shaped cars is the only part of the show that's still lodged in my brain -- the memory's hazy -- I used to watch it with my dad and just when we both started to get hooked, the station dropped it off the schedule. Don't know if that's because it ended production, or just a change made locally. I still miss The Name of the Game and would buy it in a heartbeat if it showed up on DVD. I outgrew The Champions, I guess, as it no longer holds such a dear spot in my heart, but I'm still fond of The Rogues and will happily watch whenever I have the opportunity.

I don't recall any of those, but I have dozens of shows with very limited runs on tape. I loved sci fi shows like Earth 2 and Space:Above and Beyond, and more obscure ones like Other World and Kindred:The Embraced.

It sounds like a comfortable, productive weekend Mrs_Sweetpeach. I had a good weekend too. A group of local fans came to Sunday lunch and the 'craic' was good. I'm asking this again because I've forgotten the answer the first time I asked - just what are 'sloppy joes'?
