I saw a link to the essay Six Ways to Keep Terrorists from Ruining the World on Bruce Schneier's most recent blog entry and, ever curious, followed it. I didn't expect it to lead to down a new-to-me way of looking at things, but it did.

That was brilliant! Thanks for sharing! He articulated feelings I've had but have never been able to quite express.

That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I think, until recently, the kind of instant kick back reaction to Islam and need for revenge has been far more muted in the UK. After the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005, London united in showing it was multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-faith, united in peace. More recently we have had the rise of the fascist and racist groups moving more mainstream and we've had a long of hatred and calls for revenge and Islamophobia attacks.

What we always forget/ignore/are not told in the West is that Muslim people in Muslim countries have been experiencing this kind of terror attacks in their countries for 30+ years and bombing and drone attacks is exactly what they want - they don't care how many ordinary innocent Muslim Arabs and Africans get affected by the retaliations from the West - it gives them more ammunition in their lies that the West is against them. And of course, many of these groups funding and roots and weapons go back the the Cold War when the CIA trained some of these guys.

All hate begets is hate. It's weird,to put my fangirl slant on it, the Doctor on last weeks Doctor Who was actually saying this, and that eventually someone has to forgive, someone has to sit down and talk and forget and forgive and move on.

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. Thanks again for sharing.

That's an excellent essay, and exactly mirrors my feelings/thoughts/etc. about terrorism.

Fear is what they want. Division is what they want. If we refuse to give them either, we defeat them.
