It is both exhausting and strangely liberating, at least in terms of getting rid of stuff we should have disposed of years ago. It is also horrifying in terms of the health of the planet. A truly unbelievable amount of trash was generated in the areas hit by flooding. Literally tons of furniture, bedding, small and large appliances, books, artwork, clothing, exercise equipment, cabnetry, carpeting, drywall, and other building materials. I think I was more disturbed by the waste than our losses in terms of possessions or what it will cost to replace the things we lost and still want.

It's kind of astounding how much waste there is after things like this.
