I give the author of that article full credit for changing his mind when confronted with reality, instead of denying reality.

I remember having, not an argument exactly, but an intense discussion with a co-worker. I don't remember how the subject of U.S. interference in other governments came up, but I remember my frustration when I said, "What about what we did in Chile and Iran?" And she said, "What are you talking about?" And I said, "The CIA helped Pinochet overthrew the elected government in Chile, and orchestrated a coup in Iran to replace the elected government with the monarchy." And she said [paraphrase], "That didn't happen." As much as I told her, "The CIA has publicly admitted it! The documents are declassified! You could look it up!" She literally could not believe that the U.S. would ever do anything that contradicted her Civics Class view of our government, so It Just Didn't Happen. She wouldn't even consider that maybe there were things she hadn't known about that would require her to change her worldview.

This quote has been running through my head almost constantly these days:

You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don’t alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that need altering.

Very interesting article. I've always felt that many conservatives just don't know what really goes on in the world. They have a fixed POV, and can't see beyond it.
