  1. Leaving the glue from an EEG in my hair for eight hours makes it very difficult to remove. Whether the difficulty outweighs not wanting to take three showers the same day remains open to debate.

  2. Bleach completely dissolves wool yarn as well as cat hair. Soaking acrylic yarn in bleach overnight has zero effect upon it.

Unless they've changed the glue formula since I last had to deal with this, using baby oil on the glue will help loosen it and get it out. Of course, then you're left with getting out the baby oil, but using Dawn dishwashing liquid for shampoo will usually take care of that.

hope all turned/turns out okay... *hugs*

After the first two washes I switched to hair conditioner and that helped a lot. I put on a bunch and let it soak for a while, then washed it again and the glue was gone.

As for results, those won't be in for another two weeks. I'm not sure they'll show anything as I'm having bizarre test anxiety for everything to do with the neurologist. You know how in normal test anxiety you know the answers but can't think of them during the test? Well so far, in every one of these tests I've been able to reproduce the correct answer. This is annoying because on a normal day I'm experiencing a dozen or so memory failures. *rolls eyes at self*

I'd read that there's two tests for determining whether a yarn is acrylic or wool -- burn a sample or dunk in bleach. I've had poor luck with the burn test (in that I thought some yarn was acrylic and then had it felt in the washer). So the bleach test turns out to be right method for me. I didn't know cat hair would dissolve though. I wondered about it after having three test strands of yarn completely disappear, so I found some of my cat's fur and stuck some in the bowl with the bleach. Unlike the sheep's wool, it didn't disappear immediately, but it was entirely gone when I checked it this morning. In other words, the cat hair was an actual experiment. I felt so scientific when I went to bed last night. (LOL)

I was wondering what the little container in front of the microwave was last night. At the time, I looked at it and thought, "I don't want to know."

Bleach dissolves protein. Wool is protein-- hair is protein. Who knows what acrylic is... petrolium, maybe?

"Bleach dissolves protein" -- that's *exactly* what Jebra said when I told him about my experiment. Apparently I missed that day in school. As for what acrylic is, rmediaking once said it's a petroleum product and would be around forever (we were talking about Jean's mom's stash of acrylic yarns at the time).

I missed it too... found out about it when I got a spot on a white wool sweater... sigh...
