I saw [personal profile] lamardeuse's tweet RIP Davy Jones and thought he shouldn't be dead, he's not that old. Google news confirmed the rumor with the headline Former Monkee Davy Jones dies at age 66 in Florida. My next reaction? "66? That's young."

I watched The Monkees when I was a kid and have fond memories of the show and the music. I also remember being a kid and thinking people in their 30s and 40s were old.

Maybe I'm just an old fogey (except, I'm *not*, although my body may argue differently), but I don't think 66 is old, either. If he'd been ten or twenty years older, it wouldn't have come as such a shock. But 66 years old just isn't that old anymore--and the man looked healthy and fit.

I saw the news at filkertom's and was extremely bummed. The Monkees' music was a huge part of my childhood, and I've loved it ever since.

Yeah, he seemed healthy enough in the pictures I saw. And 66 no longer sounds that old to my ears.

It's a bummer he's gone. *Hugs*

"Never trust anyone over 30" - but what do you do when you are the Over 30 one LOL? One of my first crushes is gone and today I am sad. Virtual hugs!

*Hugs back*

My babysitter was the first person I knew who wrote to a network to try to save a show. The Monkees, of course. She used to play our piano when she sat and although I can no longer recall which song I used to request, I do remember it was a Monkees number.

As I kid I never crushed on the leading guy. It was Michael Nesmith for me. Maybe that's why I keep knitting hats! (LOL)

I did crush on Davy, but as I got older, and caught the show in syndication, I fell in love with Peter. Peter was the kind of guy who always needed a hug.

I just can't think of Davy Jones as 66. He's still that fresh-faced "the cute one" in The Monkees.

Hey! They were *ALL* cute! What's not to like about Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith?

But yeah, 66 and Davy Jones DO NOT go together.

Yes, they were definitely all cute. But Davy was officially "the cute one". ::rolls eyes::

Shook me up. I, too, remember him from way back when. He was my fave Monkee. Makes me realize how quickly time has passed. When your childhood faves start dying, it really gets a little scary. Still, he seemed far too fit and too 'young' at 66 to die. RIP, Davy.

I'm so sad. Davy Jones was the first love of my life. He could sing, was adorable AND he rode horses.

Loved, raised, raced them too. He's going to be missed.
