I believe that Google has updated the street view of your neighborhood. I seem to recall that the last time I looked I couldn't find a door anywhere on your building.

Oh and I think I remember last time, I remember you seeing the pig one of the neighbours had on his roof! The other picture you picked was the house on the corner, so what you were looking at was the side of the house. I'll go now and see if I can find a pic of my house for you -

Hurrah - yep, that's me, the black door, next to the green house. My little gaff.

Urban dictionary to the rescue! (gaff" is an irish slang word for "house", its also used across Scotland and parts of England and Wales)

Since I have no memory, are you in the Lewis fandom? I ask because that was my first thought -- "Hey, a new word I could use if I miraculously started writing in my favorite fandom!" Also, Lewis/Hathaway = Love.

ooh Sorry!, hee it's funny the words you use without realising!

I've never seen Lewis I'm afraid, but it's a fab word to use!

OMG, you owe it to yourself to check out. Did you ever watch Morse when that was on? Lewis is the continuation of that. I like Morse well enough but it's Lewis I love.

As for why it's worth bothering with, refer to:

If it pops up anywhere, those posts are enough to make me check it out. Seems.... interesting :P

Yes! I tried finding the pig this time, but since I had no idea what I was doing as regards moving around in street-view (nor did I know what I did to see it last time) I didn't have any luck. Is it still there?

And do you have a back garden? I'm assuming street side is the front of your house.

Lastly, I'm a touch jealous that street view has surveyed your neighborhood. The best we have is a satellite image of our roof. And there are so many trees in our subdivision it was hard to tell what was what. If I didn't know we were the 6th house from the corner I'm not certain I'd have recognized it.

The house with the pig is further down the road, go away from my house and you'll see a house with a motorbike parked outside it, that was the house with the pig, but you can only see it if you manage to angle teh view down the alleyway between two houses. The pig is no longer there in reality, but they have a homemade dalek in the front garden on occasion.

Yep, the door you can see is my front door. if you take a step or two back (towards the green house) you will see a gate that leads to a small passage to my back yard. I have to say 'yard' as it doesn't count as a garden. My yard is a small path the length of the house and then a small square (a very small border of plants and then patio squares 6ft by 6ft at most)

It is fun to see my house (I just looked up my parents' and friends house after finding mine). I'm always keen to see where people live, it's really interesting.

By "down the road," do you mean go to the left? (Not that I'm any good at moving around within street view. Frankly, I'm pants at it.) I have mixed feelings about them having a home-made dalek as that suggests to me that they'd be my kind of people (fun and geeky), but didn't you also say that they're loud, untidy (unhappily, untidy does sound like me), and somewhat obnoxious as neighbors?

Each flat has its own yard, yes? Do they all share a common path? Yesterday I found a street with concrete cones blocking access to automobiles and tried everything I could think of to go down it. I couldn't though, and upon reflection that makes sense as I believe the vehicle google uses to record the street view is mounted on a car or van. Although I believe they have some pedal-driven vehicles/bicycles in use as well. I know Google selected the Detroit Zoo as one of the areas to map but I haven't tried to visit the zoo on the computer since I read the article in the local paper. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've managed to get there in person since then either.

As for seeing where people live, oh yes, it IS fun. After I've typed an address into the program I use to create shipping labels I often cut & paste the address into Google maps. Which is how I know my niece's apartment building complex was once a corn field!

er... I'm rubbish with google street too - What I mean is, if you imagine yourself standing where the "A" is in the picture above, with your back to the camera; walk towards the white house right at the end of the road. As you progress that way, you'll see the Pig house. The motorcycle that I referred to is parked on teh pavement and leaks oil daily - one of the reasons they are consideredanti social. That and the fact the house smells badly if you walk past when the door is open, the fact he works on teh bike until 11pm and gone, revving up the engine etc. I suspect he has other unpleasant habits as he is known to the police rather too well!

On that note, the dalek appears to be part of a grab everything I can possibly make money from viewpoint as opposed to a geeky fandom thing. I don't imagine they homemade it, if that makes sense!

Untidy on the other hand - well welcome to my world!

Each house has its own yard/garden. Some of the houses in the streets are split into flats and I don't know what wil have happened with the gardens in their situation, it often is only the person who has the ground floor flat who gets access to the yard in that case.

Very few of the houses in my street have outside access to their gardens - in fact I think the three houses in my little block (the two either side of me) are the only ones on my side of the road with rear access. Most of them can only access the garden from their house. If you notice as well, only a few of the houses have an front yard, so their front doors open straight onto the pavement. The fact my house had both was contributory to my deciding to buy it.

I found a site with old maps of my area and it's really interesting to track teh history of teh area - I realised then that my house was built in 1890!
