Speed gardening

I stopped at the local garden center on the way home from work this evening. I was still putting things into my cart when the wind picked up and rain began to fall. I finished shopping as quickly as I could, paid for my purchases, and zoomed home. Whereupon I unloaded my new plants, stuck my head in the house long enough to yell for the spouse to come help and use the garage door opener.

Within a half hour we'd filled our tomato planters with topsoil, planted three tomato plants, eight lettuce, six strawberries, and two buttonbushes. We also beat the rain, but as we'd spend the remainder of the evening inside, I don't know whether or not more fell. I do know we've had an awful lot of it lately. The back of the yard is a swamp as I discovered when I went to plant the buttonbushes. They're supposed to like occasional floods. I hope that's true or the little guys'll never make it.
