Saturday, after dance class, I went over to help a friend sort through her mother's various collections of stuff. Hats appear to have been one of her mother's passions and boy oh boy were there a lot of them. More than I could shoot. Heck, more than I could reach. The bed was piled high with boxes and stacks of hats. Here's a selection from the ones I could reach:

In semi-related news, two days later I'm still sore from all the lifting, bending, and carrying. And my own hoard of crap grew as I brought home at least six skeins of ancient acrylic yarn. On the other hand, I saved it from being tossed into a landfill and I've already transformed some of it into two cat rugs and a circular cat cozy. Photos to follow after they've been run through the wash (several days from now, no doubt).

No. Not better my house. I was thinking Connie would look good in a hat.

I love those!! The pink one in the bottom left corner is to DIE for!! I hope your friend resells them -- Paris in Royal Oak takes consignments, I believe!!

She's going to try to put them up for resale. I've forwarded your suggestion to contact Paris in Royal Oak.

Unfortunately, it's not currently in the plan. :-(

Maybe she could open an online hat shop. :-)

She could, if only she had three or four clones of herself. There's so much stuff that there just aren't enough hours in the day for her to run a store and get the house emptied in the time she has available. Not even with helpers.

Random comment here - but wow, some of those hats are gorgeous. If you're going to sell them, find someone who knows their vintage hats to help you. :)

The white one on the top left is classic. It screams garden party! :D

So many of them were classics -- perfect for garden parties, tea parties, church on Sunday... And I didn't shoot the best of the collection. I'm told there are a few couture hats in her mother's collection, complete with original hat boxes and receipts.

One of the problems we're having with cleaning the house is just how much of everything there is -- there's so much it's difficult to separate the individual items, let alone arrange each for a photograph or find an interested buyer. If we had several years, we might be able to photograph each item, but we need to get the house emptied within the next two months.
