Wednesday afternoon found me at the dentist, having one of my molars ground down. The top part of the tooth was more filling than tooth and needed a crown. I now have a temporary -- and a still sore jaw. I think I'm going to have to see the dentist sometime soon as I'm not convinced it's healing right and, even if it is, I need to have my bite guard adjusted. Right now I can't put it in without extreme pain and have been going without. Which isn't good as the last time I tried that I broke two teeth in as many weeks.

Friday night we went to see the Halloween double feature show at the Redford. It Came From Outer Space in 3D and starring Richard Carlson and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. The 3D parts of It Came From Outer Space were more unintentionally humorous than they were scary.

Saturday morning I went to Nia. I came home to shower and change clothes, then went off to the Coffee Beanery to meet up with what supposed to be a bunch of folks from Ravelry. The only two who showed up, however, were the woman who proposed the gathering and myself. We hung out for an hour and agreed to meet again next Saturday.

In the evening, Jebra was torn between going to The Ark and to Band-A-Rama at UofM. I suggested we go see Red. Which we did and which I enjoyed a great deal. I really like Helen Mirren and thoroughly enjoyed watching her on the big screen. That several parts of the movie called Hopscotch to mind was anther factor in its favor.

Sunday I slept in and then camped out on the couch with my knitting for a while. In the evening we went to Costco, then came home in plenty of time to see Sherlock. I still think Jeremey Brett played the definitive Holmes, but for an AU set in the 21st Century, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman rock mightily. I can see this quickly becoming one of my favorite pairings.

It's been a bad month for teeth. I broke a tooth two weekends ago; I now have a temporary crown and will get the permanent in another couple of weeks; I'm relieved it didn't need a root canal. Two co-workers have also paid emergency visits to the dentist this month. Hmmm, on-the-job stress?

I adore my dentist; he's a genius with the Novocaine needle, and is painstaking about fitting crowns. And he looks like Harrison Ford.

I recorded Sherlock and haven't yet watched it; but I've already seen the episode, while I was in Toronto last month. I agree that Jeremy Brett is Sherlock Holmes -- and Edward Hardwicke is Dr. Watson -- but Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman make a great pairing. I appreciate the irony that in this series, Dr. Watson can authentically be a veteran of the war in Afghanistan just as he was in the original stories. Plus ça change....

Bummer about the tooth / teeth. I hate it when that happens. I've had the same dentist for nearly 20 years (really adore him) ... have had few teeth issues since moving to GR 4 years ago. Actually, got a dental guard last winter, but I'm pretty sure that was needed in reaction to the Seroquel, which caused my leg & jaw muscles to contract violently during sleep. Don't get me started on the pharmaceutical industry. I haven't used the dental guard much at all.

I loved this first episode of Sherlock! For me, the whole set-up worked perfectly, but I've always enjoyed the cross-pollination of SF/F and mystery. And wouldn't it be a nice touch to see those guys in bed together? Ha! Take that, you staid Sherlockians! This incarnation is *really* going forward.

Those two in bed together? Oh yes. I can see why the slash community fell for the new series. There was so much of a slash explosion that I had to unsubscribe from 221b_slash as I couldn't keep up!
