I heard today that the Detroit Zoo is likely to be closed. The City of Detroit can no longer afford to operate it. The Detroit Zoological Society wants to take over, but so far the city has said no, they'd rather see the zoo closed and the animals sent to other facilities than hand over control of the zoo to another organization.
