It may be January, but I'm still trying to wrap up my year-end stuff. Like our annual letter. And sorting through the apparently thousands of photos I shot in 2009. After culling and arranging into galleries, I wrote out ten CDs worth of photographs. Yow.

I've also been working on another crochet afghan. It's a simple ripple pattern (http://home.att.net/~susanBinKC/patterns/ripple.html) and I've been trying to do three rows (one band of color) every night. I figure I'm currently between one-quarter and one-third done.

In other news, yesterday I activated an account at AO3. Eventually I'll back up my fic there.

Oh! I did about 1/3 of one of those afghans in the 70's. It was orange, tan and brown. I think it's still in my mother's closet, along with the rest of the yarn. :)

Was it Red Heart yarn? If so, you have the makings for a new "vintage" afghan. :-)

Probably, only my great-grandmother used anything other than Red Heart. She liked wool :) And no, really I don't. Its in the closet because it made me crazy... I'm not a good crocheter :)

In that case, you could send it to me and I'll finish it for you. Or we could trade; I'm still mulling over your offer to sell knitting rolls in your shop. I've been keeping an eye out for free or nearly free fabric. It comes up from time to time on freecycle, but I was too slow in responding the previous two or three times.

I'm sure that's a simple afghan pattern -- for geniuses who can crochet. It scares me to death just looking at it. But I admire you for attempting it. :-)))

Let me know how AO3 works out. (I haven't figured out to type that properly.) I doubt I'll get an account, but I like to know all my options.

By the way -- did you get my PM? Hope so, but let me know if you didn't, so I can send it again, or send an email or something.

Now that I understand the pattern, it's going well. Other than last night, when I realized on the last stitch of the third row (i.e., the stitch where I swap colors) I had just spent two hours with the wrong color yarn. I unraveled my mistake and started over with the correct color. This is what I get for (a) working when I'm tired and (b) not having sufficient light in the living room. The colors aren't *that* close, but with inadequate light it's hard to tell color A from color B.

I did get your PM and am actually logged in now to send it to Maddie. This past week has been frustrating as there just hasn't been time to do everything I want and/or need to do. And there's no catching up this weekend -- we'll be at a SF convention.

I'll fill you in on AO3 (and as you can see, I haven't figured out how to format their acronym either) once I know what's what.
