Drive-by Update

Thursday was Valentine's Day, so after work I accompanied jebra to the SEMiSLUG meeting at the Corner Brewery. SEMiSlug stands for the SouthEast Michigan Sun Local Users Group for those who are wondering. The group has been around for what feels like forever, but its heyday is long past and there were only six or seven attendees on Thursday. The low attendance was probably not influenced by Valentine's Day as some months no one shows up for the meetings. Nevertheless, I enjoyed listening to old war stories of the computer variety while I sorted through my interchangeable knitting needles and put my gear into some semblance of order.

We took Friday off from work because we knew we'd be spending most of the day preparing for the Farmington Community Band's Valentine Dinner Dance. We got to the clubhouse later than I expected and probably an hour later than jebra wanted. With the exception of the cables to the amplifier, he had everything he was supposed to have with him. Rather than drive to fetch cables, he arranged for delivery of a new and better set from Anderson Music. While jebra helped set up the band's gear I curled up by the fireplace and knit. I finished another chemo cap and restarted the shawl I plan to make for myself. I was less than 10 rows in when I frogged it for the first time. This time I made it to around 25 rows before I goofed up. I tried tinking back to the problem but while tinking I kept dropping stitches. Originally I thought I'd have to tink three rows. That grew to five, then seven, and then when I realized that wasn't going to be enough I frogged the entire thing again. Next time I'm going to use lifelines and insert one after every major change in the pattern.

Anyway, a bunch of friends joined us for the Dinner Dance and that was great. The only disappointment was that one couple could not attend because the wife was in the hospital with Deep Vein Thrombosis. Understandably, her husband preferred to spend Valentine's Day with her rather than at the dance. I took a fair number of photos, which I haven't had time to sort through yet. Tomorrow I hope to get a few up on (yuck) Facebook.

Saturday jebra had to get up early to do a music outreach thing in Farmington or Farmington Hills. After that he went off a party. Meanwhile I stayed home in bed (I didn't get up until the crack of mid-afternoon. Seriously, I was in bed until nearly four o'clock. When I got up I started laundry and sorting yarn and trying to clean house. Cleaning house was, as usual, mostly a fail.

Sunday we went to see Warm Bodies with a few of our friends. I very much enjoyed the movie and am still thinking about it. After the movie we came home and I resumed looking for my keys and wallet. I knew they came home with me from the dinner dance but I had no idea where I'd put them when I emptied out my knitting bag. I spent six hours searching the housing and stressing myself out to the point I had vertigo. At the six hour mark I finally discovered them in a bag on the kitchen table along the valentine candy I planned to give to our godson. It made perfect sense to me once I finally found it all, but it sure would have been nice to remember that's what I'd done while I was searching.

Today I'm back at work and trying to remove duplicate files from my computer. Being a Federal Holiday it's been quiet here today and that's just as well as far as I'm concerned.

God I love the internet

I've been enjoying the new priceline commercial, the one with The Negotiator's daughter ending her stay with the monks. I've been wondering what she says in not-English. I tried googling before and came up dry, but I tried again tonight and got an answer. She's speaking Cantonese and what she said is "Your daughter is as naughty as spoiled girl."
