More randomness

I'm still sick. I thought I was getting better, as I felt pretty good yesterday morning, but by the afternoon my energy level dropped and I could feel my lungs becoming congested. I hate being sick, but more than that, I now actively fear illnesses that involve the pulmonary system. I have sleep apnea and a CPAP machine -- under normal circumstances I don't worry about not waking up, but when I'm sick like this, well, it's the foremost thought in my mind the second I start thinking about laying down.

In the gruesome news department, I had the radio on in the car on the way to work this morning. The DJs were talking about some news story involving a woman and her six-year-old child. The woman lost control of her vehicle; it went over a guard rail, rolled several times, and severed her arm. When the police arrived to survey the accident scene, they found her arm and, still clutched in her hand, was her cell phone. The DJs made a big deal about the cell phone being found there, but I watch a lot of forensic shows on television and have heard medical examiners talk about the difficulty of freeing items from deceased people's hands -- there's some sort of muscle contraction that can take place when the person dies. I figure having the arm severed could cause the same phenomenon. I know that not everyone can drive safely while talking on a cell phone, but I don't think finding the phone in her hand can be considered proof of anything. It's possible she was in an altercation with another driver and was calling for help at the time of the accident.

Climate change? Global warming?

I grew up hearing "If you don't like the weather in Michigan, wait five minutes...," but the weather we've had this Winter is something else. I'm sure that this time last year we were dealing with snow. This year, not only haven't we used our snow shovels, but the tulips are coming up. I'm not a big fan of the white stuff, but this is just wrong.
