Last week my mom bought an iPhone. I played with it yesterday before we came home and I'm still thinking about it. I like it *so* much more than my Palm Centro. The screen is so big that my scrapbook pages look great on it, I like the interface, and the choice in aps is amazing. Mom bought a backyard birding book for hers that has identifying information on many of the birds visiting her feeders and better, plays their bird songs to help identify them. I could use something like that. And some of the other aps are simply silly and *fun* -- like the Zippo lighter application. Unfortunately, not only am I a cheapskate, I still have seven months to go on my contract with Sprint.

FWIW, I have an iPod Touch -- the kind with the largest memory, 32GB, IIRC. Tullio has an 8GB Touch (that he won as a prize!). I love my Touch, which is able to use many of the same programs as the iPhone (including that bird encyclopedia, which I also bought).

The Touch is not a phone, and it doesn't have a camera built-in... but... it does allow you to access the internet via WiFi. And if you are really a cheapskate, then you may not enjoy paying the monthly fees that AT&T charges for iPhone -- look it up at wireless.att.com -- I looked at the costs the other day and am now rethinking how badly I really need this device.

Some wireless providers will pay off your old contract for you if you switch to their contract. You could check on whether a deal like that is offered for the iPhone.

That sounds like a really cool phone. I hope you can afford it some day. =>}

I read somewhere that you have the right to cancel a cellphone contract without penalties within 30 days of the last billing error.

Nuts, I wish I could remember where I saw that...sounds like a get out of jail free card!
