I slept in, went over to Artisan Knits and hung out with my friends for a few hours, came home to swap cars with jebra, used my 50% coupon at JoAnn Fabrics (where I bought a $1 spool of ribbon and more darning needles including the spiffy curved ones), then came home and weeded both the garden in front of the house and the patio. I was outside until it started to get dark, came in and took a shower, had a bit of dinner, and then stuffed two small toy bears. They'd be done by now if I hadn't mislaid the black yarn I need for their eyes and noses. I searched all the likely places but so far the stuff is nowhere to be seen.

Before and after photos of our patioCollapse )

Another good thing was that three times I caught birds bathing in the pond. Birds can be surprisingly noisy bathers.

...absolutely *hate* "healthing." I am so annoyed by Lysol's attempt to coin the word I'm thinking of boycotting their products.

It's been a busy few weeks and *way* too many late nights. My short-term memory is failing me and long-term is suffering too.

Back on April 25th, we went to see the Stagecrafter's performance of Arsenic and Old Lace. I enjoyed it, even though the male lead was no Cary Grant. There were a few lines that had me rolling and I was surprised by the ending as it's different -- and darker -- than the movie.

The next day Penguicon started. Good convention but I had to leave in the middle of Saturday for a bridal shower. I was seriously annoyed by the timing as not only is Penguicon one of my favorite conventions but the father of the bride was one of the panelists.

The following weekend was SEMGS at one of our couples' new house. Their place is right on the Huron River and the view from their patio is beautiful. The next day we drove to Ionia to deliver a netbook computer to my mom. She's passing her old one on to someone else in the family but thanks to my wonky memory I can't recall who is getting the old one. I do recall jebra has been instructed to keep an eye on eBay for another one as my brother wants one too.

I thought the Black Sheep Knitting Guild was going to hold their last meeting of this school year Tuesday night, but I was off by a week. Luckily for me two other women made the same mistake and sent me to the Panera where many of the guild members meet on non-official-meeting Tuesdays. I had a lovely time and now that I know where the Panera is, I expect I'll join them there on a regular basis. The real meeting is next Tuesday. While at Panera I finished knitting the last Jayne Hat of the shipment I've been preparing for the California Browncoats.

Wednesday I caught up on laundry and spend a few hours scrubbing bloody paw prints off the living room floor. Hamish's foot, by the way, has completely healed. The missing toe hasn't changed his agility and he's pretty much the same cat he's always been other than he's one toe short.

Thursday night was SEMiSlug and I went along to the meeting. Which is to say we went to the bar for drinks & dinner and talked computers and gaming theory for a few hours.

After work tonight I mailed my box of hats to the California Browncoats. If any of you are attending San Diego Comic-con, you should have the opportunity to buy one. Unless Fox's lawyers get in the way.

Today (since it's technically Saturday) we're starting the day with a visitation and funeral, knitting at Artisan Knits, a house-warming in Novi, followed by a piano concert. If I'm really lucky I'll get to stay home on Sunday but there's a good chance we'll be visiting with the bride-to-be and her fiance to discuss what they want for the wedding service.

I intended to compose a Drive-by Update first thing this morning, but that will have to wait. Instead have two things I thought were rather brilliant.

First up, the most well-trained cat I have ever seen:

Next, this post by Leslie Fish: Stopping Pests in the Bedroom Window or The Tale of the Window Weenie-Wagger as promised in her previous post.

During a typical week I see this house no less than ten times. It is on the route to work as well as on the way to many of the restaurants where we buy lunch. I don't know the people who lived there but going by the piles of boxes on their porch I had a hunch they were hoarders. I was worried that whoever lived there had been trapped inside, but Google revealed a pair of newspaper articles and I read that the couple who lived there were able to escape.

The top two photos are from Google Street View. The bottom two are mine. The middle one is from one of the news articles.

I'm getting copies of US Weekly in the mail. I know I didn't subscribe to this thing and I don't know who purchased the subscription for me. I'd like to know who is responsible so that I can ask him or her to never do it again.

Every week a new issue arrives. Being me, I have had zero success in talking myself into throwing it away without looking inside even though the exact same thing happens. I recognize a handful of faces, a small percentage of the names mentioned, and wonder why I'm wasting my time looking at pictures of people I don't know and don't care about.

Today I counted the number of names I recognized in the April 22nd issue. 49. And of these people, how many do I care about? Two, if "care a tiny bit" counts as caring. Judge Judy had her contract renewed, and Michael Weatherly and his wife are expecting their second child. There was also a small article about the Duck Dynasty people. Which I didn't read and didn't examine closely, but which did account for 8 of the names I recognized.

Subject: American Express really does monitor for suspicious charges

Yesterday I got an email that claimed to be from American Express saying they'd noticed a suspicious charge. I looked at the raw message and couldn't find anything wrong with it, but being careful I decided I'd wait and call the number on the back of my credit card from work this morning rather than call the number given in the email. I just made the call and discovered there were three suspect charges on my card. American Express declined all three charges so there is nothing I need do now except wait for my new card to arrive. And then contact all the merchants who make automatic charges to my card and give them the new number.

I have no idea how my card number was obtained by thieves but I am very glad American Express is paying attention.
